Eastbourne Extreme Kids Club - Biggest yet?
14/07/2008 by tim.
Well Sk8school are Teaching at Eastbourne Extreme this year and that’s including Kids Club in the official time table!

As the Pictures Show its a pretty popular and well attended event in any case every week. Lets hope that the Saturday and Sunday Kids Clubs for the Eastbourne Extreme weekend are the biggest Kids Club Sk8school has ever run!
I Just hope everyone remembers its not at the Turning Circle that weekend! We’ll be in the Skate part of the event near the basket ball courts.
Tell all your friends - lets make this the biggest one ever.
Another Sk8 n Chips success!
11/07/2008 by tim.
A welcome break in the weather allowed us to run a sk8 n chips (at last!).
As usual we did the “length” and finished off on the beach with the fish n chips! Another successful night skate in Eastbourne then!

And we even managed to get back before the rain came again!
The next breakfast skate is 9am Saturday AND Sunday during the Eastbourne Extreme weekend.
9am from the basket ball courts rather than the turning circle.
Sk8 M8’s Txt Event Notification - Near 100 users already!
16/06/2008 by tim.
Well, word of mouth seems to be working! The Sk8 M8’s event notification by SMS appears to be what people want, because in the first week of mentioning it to a few of you, nearly 100 people have signed up!
It’s safe to say the service is still somewhat “experimental” as we don’t quite know how well it’s going to work, so it could be withdrawn - but for the moment it certainly looks popular. The first test will be the Breakfast skate on the 21st or the Trip to London one Wednesday. We’ll just have to check the numbers and find out how people found out about it…
Sk8 M8’s Beach BBQ
11/06/2008 by tim.
A real case of sausage and roll!
Our first one of the year and a good number turned up, however there were about 4 times as many people watching and skating than actually eating (why eat before a BBQ?)
Anyway, a few pictures tell the story and show the wonderful surroundings. Alas poor Lee hurt his neck over the weekend at NewQuay so he wasn’t skating - but still seemed keen to instruct anyone who’d listen on how to cook the perfect sausage!

Many people struggled with the late notice (and we had to do it that way because of the weather and wind speed are a large factor!) However - the new and experimental Sk8 M8’s Event TXT notification should aid in that regard in the future!

And just to add a little fizz to the proceedings, we had to try out the Mentos and Coke experiment on the beach - there’s a video for it here! -> video0026.mp4
So how fast can you go?
09/06/2008 by tim.

Speed Skating - It’s not everyone’s bag, but how fast can you go? Are you just a little curious? Like anyone that’s been to the Sk8school Skate Theory Class, I know that “Rockered” is not as fast as “Flat Setup” (If you don’t know what that is - well get yourself along to the theory next time its on!).However I still managed a respectable 31kmh on the sprint. How do I know? I used a GPS speedo application and just read the speed of my GPS enabled mobile phone display! It’s by no means totally accurate - I should think there’s a good +/- 4kmh on that, but it’s still a useful indication. Additionally holding your phone, so you can read it tends to cramp the flow (and therefore top speed) somewhat.
Quite looking forward to practising the same run, “Flat” to see what the speed improvement is…
Anyone else got a similar application on their phone and tried the same? What’s the best you’ve done?
New Service from Sk8School and Sk8 M8’s - TXT Event Notification
09/06/2008 by tim.
Sk8 M8’s and Customers, here’s some fantastic news, we are going to be experimenting with some new technology over the next few days and weeks…
Txt notification and reminders of events. If you’d like to sign up for the experimental version of this service please let us know via email from the contacts page of the main Sk8school website. Alternately just send a txt to 07940773295.
It would be a very handy service for any of the Sk8 M8’s for example, interested in the forthcoming Wednesday night trip to Londons Wednesday night skate. Also pretty handy for Sk8 n Chips, Breakfast Skates and those Sk8 M8’s BBQ’s.
Latest Breakfast Skate Pictures
09/06/2008 by tim.
Probably the best one of the year on Saturday! We rolled, we had breakfast, we had ice cream.
The pictures tell the tale! If you’d like to join in, the breakfast skate start off from the Turning Circle at 9am every other Saturday - so the next one is June 21st. All you need is something near Stride 2 capability and half reasonable stopping skill!
20+ skaters and we picked up several on the way. Even though several of the regulars were missing, a good turn out and several welcome new faces.
Here’s the Turning Circle group, getting ready to go.

And we’re off!

You’re never to small for breakfast!

And now we’re well on our way, on another fantastic Eastbourne Skaters Sk8 M8’s Breakfast Skate

Our first proper stop is just before the pier (though we regroup before all the hills too!)

And as our two model 24 year old’s demonstrate, skating really does keep you looking young!

After breakfast Captain Chaos decides to have a cone break.

And all the showing off leads to more showing off (have you noticed it’s the same offenders every week?)

And the Challenges roll on, all on a full stomach!

And the alternative version…

Time for a photo, before any more head off!

The final stop, back where we started!

Looking good for the Sk8 n Chips on Thursday!
