Sk8 M8’s Txt Event Notification - Near 100 users already!

Well, word of mouth seems to be working! The Sk8 M8’s event notification by SMS appears to be what people want, because in the first week of mentioning it to a few of you, nearly 100 people have signed up!

It’s safe to say the service is still somewhat “experimental” as we don’t quite know how well it’s going to work, so it could be withdrawn - but for the moment it certainly looks popular. The first test will be the Breakfast skate on the 21st or the Trip to London one Wednesday. We’ll just have to check the numbers and find out how people found out about it…

Sk8 M8’s Beach BBQ

A real case of sausage and roll!

Our first one of the year and a good number turned up, however there were about 4 times as many people watching and skating than actually eating (why eat before a BBQ?)

Anyway, a few pictures tell the story and show the wonderful surroundings. Alas poor Lee hurt his neck over the weekend at NewQuay so he wasn’t skating - but still seemed keen to instruct anyone who’d listen on how to cook the perfect sausage!

Many people struggled with the late notice (and we had to do it that way because of the weather and wind speed are a large factor!) However - the new and experimental Sk8 M8’s Event TXT notification should aid in that regard in the future!

And just to add a little fizz to the proceedings, we had to try out the Mentos and Coke experiment on the beach - there’s a video for it here! -> video0026.mp4

So how fast can you go?

Speed Skating

Speed Skating - It’s not everyone’s bag, but how fast can you go? Are you just a little curious? Like anyone that’s been to the Sk8school Skate Theory Class, I know that “Rockered” is not as fast as “Flat Setup” (If you don’t know what that is - well get yourself along to the theory next time its on!).However I still managed a respectable 31kmh on the sprint. How do I know? I used a GPS speedo application and just read the speed of my GPS enabled mobile phone display! It’s by no means totally accurate - I should think there’s a good +/- 4kmh on that, but it’s still a useful indication. Additionally holding your phone, so you can read it tends to cramp the flow (and therefore top speed) somewhat.

Quite looking forward to practising the same run, “Flat” to see what the speed improvement is…

Anyone else got a similar application  on their phone and tried the same? What’s the best you’ve done?

New Service from Sk8School and Sk8 M8’s - TXT Event Notification

Sk8 M8’s and Customers, here’s some fantastic news, we are going to be experimenting with some new technology over the next few days and weeks…

Txt notification and reminders of events. If you’d like to sign up for the experimental version of this service please let us know via email from the contacts page of the main Sk8school website. Alternately just send a txt to 07940773295.

It would be a very handy service for any of the Sk8 M8’s for example, interested in the forthcoming Wednesday night trip to Londons Wednesday night skate. Also pretty handy for Sk8 n Chips, Breakfast Skates and those Sk8 M8’s BBQ’s.

Latest Breakfast Skate Pictures

Probably the best one of the year on Saturday! We rolled, we had breakfast, we had ice cream.

The pictures tell the tale! If you’d like to join in, the breakfast skate start off from the Turning Circle at 9am every other Saturday - so the next one is June 21st. All you need is something near Stride 2 capability and half reasonable stopping skill!

20+ skaters and we picked up several on the way. Even though several of the regulars were missing, a good turn out and several welcome new faces.

Here’s the Turning Circle group, getting ready to go.

It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally going to do it! Check out full details here for the Sk8 M8’s London Trip for the Wednesday Night Skate. Weather dependant - so short notice will apply, probably one of the last Wednesdays in June.

SkateInstructor.com running “Stroll” Course

Our friends in London are running a course (similar in many ways to our Sk8 Streetwise - next to be repeated in July) full details of this course can be found here: http://skateinstructor.com/2008/06/a-course-to-take-you-from-begi.html

Flakey Forum, down again!

Well that was a quick response! Post and … er whoops dropped of the Internet! (Who could have guessed?)

And sure enough, straight after my post (this one) the good old flakey forum falls over again!

Flakey Forum Down Again!

For those that are interested - Sk8school’s offer to help at the Event has not yet been answered - or at least the question is still outstanding, however I’ve now had my account suspended, for “promoting businesses” on the Forum!

Quite unbelievable! Still if a response does surface to our perfectly genuine offer, I’ll be sure it’s published promptly.

Nick, if you are having trouble posting your answer on your Forum, please feel free to leave a comment here. We’re all still be very interested in your reply.

Apparently (so I’m told) “Those wishing to participate at any of our events can contact us via the appropriate channels”
Um what does a Forum do then exactly? If that’s not a “proper channel” what is?

In the meantime, everyone reading this, please feel free to vote on whether you think the offer (here) was a business promotion or an offer of help!

Just pick the option you think and press return! Vote Cast!

A fantastic Eastbourne Skating morning out and a fantastic turnout of about 20 - I finished my days skating with the 10 ways to Stop on skates, half day intensive! (Last 4 pictures show some of the class mastering the backwards power-slide).

Looking forward to the next breakfast skate and night skate with the Eastbourne Skaters Sk8 M8’s.

As all ways the details are on the website on the Sk8 M8’s page.
