Half day intensive skate courses

We’re running the last indoor half day intensive skate courses this Sunday at Shine Water.

3 courses in all :-

Beginners introduction skating lesson - covering all the beginner skills from standing up and stopping to going fast!

Mastering Turns - covering every form of turn, starting with the A-Frame and ending with forwards crossover and slalom turn and finally:

The Experts course - Flow grace and Tricks the ultimate Eastbourne Skating course. A skate lesson to be scared of!

Advanced Street Skating Course - London

As promised we've got David running an advanced street skating course on Saturday 29th March, from 10:00 to 11:30. I've created a Facebook event for it (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=9563370325) where you can read what’s going to be happening.

Unfortunately we have to limit the number of places to 6 people, at least for this first one, until we work out how many people and how long it needs to be exactly. Best to contact Mark through the skateinstructor.com Facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5838043700) to get yourself booked onto this course (DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE as I’m going to be offline from now until the end of next week and you’ll miss out!).

If you’re in any doubt on whether you can make it I suggest letting other people come: the last thing we want is for people to miss out on the opportunity. We will be running this course again and, if it’s really popular, it could be run again on the same day!

There’s more coming from David, including an introduction to slides course where he’ll probably be covering the soul slide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK_KaM1Cpkw), mistral (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wouZQr8hvWw) and parallel slide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEC3miGyElM), so watch this space. Also, if you’re really really nice to him, and already doing slides, we might be able to twist his arm into running a magic slide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIE2xsVJaCI) course for you too!

Anyway, get back to us soon because this’ll be advertised on serpentineroad.com and it’s likely to get busy!

Skate Lessons Forced indoors in Eastbourne and Brighton

The appalling weather over the last few days means all outdoor Skate lessons in Brighton and Eastbourne are postponed or moved indoors. Please contact your instructor for details.

If you’re skate lesson is not till the weekend then there’s a good chance this weather will blow over and we can get back to normal! See you on Brighton seafront for more skating lessons soon!

National Skate Patrol Training - NSP

I’ve been Eastbourne’s NSP (National Skate Patrol) Trainer for 5 years now and have trained NSP as far afield as Goodwood, London and Brighton. The Uckfield Roller Disco have now approached me about training, to make their Roller Disco safer. So some time in late March I expect to be re-visiting the Uckfield Leisure centre and setting up a half day training session, to bring all their skate guards up to standard.

The difference between NSP training and “proper” skate instruction/ skate lessons

It’s not particularly hard to pick up the NSP skills as there is only a very limited set of demonstrations the NSP level, skate guard is qualified to show. The NSP don’t really teach or instruct, they just get to show people the basic “stand up, get going and stop” moves.  For more detailed explanations, or corrective measures (when people get it wrong) you need a Skate Instructor. Simply put the difference between Volunteer NSP and professional Skate Instructors is that the NSP can only show and demonstrate 3 basic techniques, a full instructor, can demonstrate, correct, adjust, tune and teach a multitude of skate techniques.

If anyone needs NSP training, so you are qualified to teach to NSP level, I’m more than happy to help!
