Eastbourne Skate Lesson - HDI Stopping - Rave reviews
26/01/2009 by tim.
We’re just recovering from another fantastic day’s skating at the Eastbourne Shinewater leisure centre. The usual 10am Eastbourne Skate Lessons, followed by the FREE open skate (Eastbournes only FREE indoor skating) and Kids club all at 11am.

The afternoon was reserved for the 3 hour intensive mastering course “Stopping on skates”, which was fully booked. The class started with the heel brake and then went on through 10-20 different methods of stopping on skates, to the holy grail - the double edged hockey stop. (And we teach 3 methods of doing that!).

Many people don’t realise that the heel brake is by far the most efficient stop for its learning curve. In other words its stopping power relative to its risk and level of difficulty to master is the best! In fact it’s so far ahead of all the other stopping methods, you could be forgiven for thinking you don’t really need any other method! There are more powerful stops (precisely two in fact) which are better at stopping you at any speed - however they have significantly more risk to execute and take a long time to learn properly.

Given the importance of the heel brake - especially early in your skating career - Make sure you see a proper demo, with all the important points highlighted. (Which will require wearing one of course!)

The best way to be sure you are getting the right instruction is to have a lesson with a Sk8school instructor. You know you get what you pay for - a Quality Eastbourne Skate Lesson.

The next course will be Mastering Turns and Edges on February 15th. At this time there are only 3 places left!
Eastbourne Skate Lesson - Flow Grace and Tricks
15/01/2009 by tim.
The pinnacle of skating lessons for most people in Eastbourne is the Sk8school Flow Grace and Tricks course, which this year will be March 29th. This year will be a special treat as 3 of the top ranked instructors, coaches and sponsored skaters in England will be running it as a cross discipline course.
This is an absolutely top end course, but with the high level of teaching, comes a high entry requirement. Which is why we run it so infrequently. Simply put there are not enough skaters at the right level to benefit from it.
If this piques your interest - give us a call and we’ll check whether this course is right for you!
And a little later… we’ll announce the instructors! You will be surprised!
