Tickets for the highly anticipated Christmas Party will be on sale from 1st November.

The Party is NOT a roller disco - but it will have music, games, dancing, it’s a knockout, some teaching, a dance teach in, kids club and quite a bit more!

Tickets are £2 and available from all Sk8 M8’s and Sk8school events leading up to the 21st December Christmas Skate Party.

March of the Quaddies! Eastbourne Free skating taken over!

Well the Quaddies have infiltrated the Sk8 M8’s and Sk8schools FREE weekly Open skate. It looks like even Eastbourne’s only FREE skating venue is not safe for inline skaters anymore!

img_0565.JPG

And they even managed to subvert an inline skater to their cause!

img_0566.JPG

What was it Teresa? was it the amazing team moves they’ve put together that impressed you so much?

Luckily no one in Kids Club was fooled and we all carried on with the serious business of improving our skating while playing a variety of games! The new one this week was pursuit racing! Come along one Sunday to see what all the fuss is about!

img_0567.JPG

I think it was so good, we’ll make it part of the “It’s a knockout” event at the Sk8school and Sk8 M8’s Christmas Party.

Tickets for which will be on sale shortly!

Half Day Intensive Skate Lesson on Stopping

Billed as 10 ways to stop on skates, this class had to deliver a lot!

Well as you can see from the pictures of Mike and Teresa below some of the 9 people taking part, managed to execute the power slide and hockey stops.

mvi_0540avi_000042166.jpgmvi_0540avi_000129532.jpg

We start with reviewing the standard Heel Brake stop, and then rapidly go through heel brake 2 and 3 before dispensing with the heel brake all together.

mvi_0540avi_000078699.jpg

Those that attended were surprised to learn that actually the heel brake is either the 2nd or 3rd most “powerful” stopping method, certainly the easiest - so it’s always worth keeping it on your skate for those “emergencies”!

The next half day intensive course is Mastering Flowing Turns and  Edges.

Eastbournes only FREE indoor skating sessions - rolling on to a great start!

Sk8school have long been known to provide the best skate lessons in Eastbourne, as well as the only FREE lessons, but now Sk8school have gone a step further and provide the Sk8 M8’s with FREE indoor facilities to practice and fool around once a week!

pa120080.JPG

As you can see it goes down well!

mvi_0535avi_000028999.jpg

The format is spread over 2 hours, with a choice of activities ranging from free drop in skating, to booked and paid for - to suite all tastes and budgets!

mvi_0535avi_000076999.jpg

We start at 10am with FREE skate lessons for all voucher bearing LOCO and RE-AL shop visitors (or you can pay for the group lesson at £5 for a child and £8 for an adult). Also at this time is the pre-booked quiet skate, which allows a maximum of 20 skaters some quiet practise time.

mvi_0535avi_000018533.jpg

Then at 11am, we open up the floor to Eastbourne’s Sk8 M8’s and a FREE indoor skate session. At the same time we also have the famous Kids Club (£3) which we note has started to attract several adults in some of the warm ups and games!

mvi_0535avi_000032866.jpg

All in all it bodes well for the Sk8school Christmas Skate Party scheduled for 21st December. We plan to offer 3 hours of skating with a proper DJ for £2! Hurry and get your tickets!

The practise space is used for a variety of activities - in fact the Calamity Janes use it for practising their dance moves.

This has led on to a full “Dance School” session to be arranged in the very near future - watch this space!

The unexpected breakfast skate!

There I was minding my own business, when out of the blue the Sk8 M8’s txt me to tell me the weather is going to be fabulous for the weekend and could I crank out the TXT service one more time!

Well obviously we had to oblige and would you know it heaps of the usual suspects turned up!

imag0801.jpg

Luckily Rebecca had her camera this time, so for once I was in some of the photo’s.

We saw the usual sights along the prom and even met various Dotto trains along the way.

At one point myself and Lee had a quick powerslide demo, to see if we could stop “on the spot” - good fun was had by all!

It just goes to show the usefulness of the TXT service for the Sk8 M8’s.

imag0812.jpg

Thanks to Rebecca for some wonderful photo’s they really tell the story!

Alas I can’t guarantee there’ll by another breakfast skate this year. The problem with this time of year, is although the weather can be warm in the mid part of the day, the early morning can be foggy and humid, often settling on the floor. And as you all know, if the floors wet… you’re in trouble.

Half day intensive beginners skate lesson

Laura ran a half day intensive skate lesson for beginners this Saturday which as you can see was well attended. This will probably be the last lesson the Eastbourne Inline Skate School will run outdoors this year - as the weather was exceptional!

imag0815.jpg

As you can see from the pictures!

imag0819.jpg

We hope to be seeing these people soon at our FREE indoor open skates, so they can keep those newly acquired skills topped up!

imag0817.jpg

If you need more information on the best quality skate lessons in Eastbourne, then check out the link. Sk8school has been providing the widest range of skate lessons in Eastbourne and indeed teaching people to skate in Eastbourne since 1985!

Once you’ve gained confidence on the beginner and intermediate skills, we’d recommend our suite of mastering classes.

Details of which can be found on the Sk8school skate lessons page.

Berlin Marathon

On Saturday 27th September I took part in the Berlin Inline Skate Marathon. The Berlin Marathon is known as the easiest of the skate marathons due to 2 things: Perfectly smooth roads, and no hills.

Before I started the race I was rather worried. There is a time limit of 2 hours 30 minutes, and any skater who cannot finish in that time is picked up by a bus and driven to the finish line. I was determined not to be picked up by that bus!

At 4pm the first starters began the race (the fastest skaters start first). I started in block F and began and 4.10pm.

berl-086.JPG

I made a fast (for me!) start to the race, and 1 hour 3 minutes later I passed through the 13 mile half-way point. However, the fast first half had worn me out and I had to slow down for the second half.

The best part of the race was the finishing stretch along Unter den Linden. I passed through The Brandenburg Gate onto Strasse den 17 Juni and saw the cheering crowds lining the road up to the finish line.

I finished the 26 mile course in 2 hours, 20 minutes and 50 seconds. And I avoided being picked up by the bus!

Eastbourne’s Only Free Indoor Skating session kicked off on October 5th and it rounded off a perfect start to our indoor lesson program and quiet skate.

Eastbourne Skate Lesson - Half Day Intensive - Beginners

Saturday morning Laura is planning to run a Half Day Intensive Beginners Skate Lesson in Eastbourne at the Turning Circle (the home of skating in Eastbourne).

Alas the weather does not look so great for the weekend - lucky the main Sk8school and Sk8 M8 events are inside at the Shinewater centre for the rest of the year then!

If you have booked with Laura for this skate lesson, please check with her before setting out.
