Sk8 to Ski trip on March 24th
25/03/2008 by tim.
Well in spite of the weather and various people being ill and otherwise indisposed we still managed to make it to the slope in the one slot in the day when it wasn’t actually raining!
At 6:30 in weather conditions closer to winter than spring the temperature plummets and this made the artificial ski slope actually ICY! Excellent! Everyone had a fabulous time as the whole experience was closer to snow than normal!
The sk8school skate training of course put the intrepid skiers in good stead to tackle the slopes - we’re certainly have to run another one in April.

The Experts Skate Course - Eastbourne March 16th
16/03/2008 by tim.
Congratulations to everyone in the Flow grace and tricks course this Sunday.
All survivors should be proud of themselves, because the skating in the Sk8school Experts course really was as hard as we said it was going to be! Physically and mentally.
Well done to Jackson, Teresa, Helen, Suzi and Rebecca.
It is by far the most physically demanding course - and everyone noticed the “step up” from the comparatively gentle “mastering” courses Sk8school run - The Streetwise on Eastbourne Seafront, the Mastering Backwards, 10 different ways to stop and of course the Mastering Turns course. All rounded off with a Skate Theory lesson!

National Skate Patrol Training - NSP
09/03/2008 by tim.
I’ve been Eastbourne’s NSP (National Skate Patrol) Trainer for 5 years now and have trained NSP as far afield as Goodwood, London and Brighton. The Uckfield Roller Disco have now approached me about training, to make their Roller Disco safer. So some time in late March I expect to be re-visiting the Uckfield Leisure centre and setting up a half day training session, to bring all their skate guards up to standard.
The difference between NSP training and “proper” skate instruction/ skate lessons
It’s not particularly hard to pick up the NSP skills as there is only a very limited set of demonstrations the NSP level, skate guard is qualified to show. The NSP don’t really teach or instruct, they just get to show people the basic “stand up, get going and stop” moves. For more detailed explanations, or corrective measures (when people get it wrong) you need a Skate Instructor. Simply put the difference between Volunteer NSP and professional Skate Instructors is that the NSP can only show and demonstrate 3 basic techniques, a full instructor, can demonstrate, correct, adjust, tune and teach a multitude of skate techniques.
If anyone needs NSP training, so you are qualified to teach to NSP level, I’m more than happy to help!
